Piecing the Quilt:
- Refer to photo for color placement. Alternate two colors and sew 12 Small Dresden Plates petals together to form a complete Dresden Plate. Notice that each shape has a slit at the beginning of the curve. Begin sewing from the center of the Dresden Plate up towards the curve and stop sewing when you reach the slit. Repeat until all Small Dresden Plates are completed.
- Refer to photo for color placement. Alternate two colors and sew 12 Large Dresden Plate petals together to form a complete Dresden Plate. Notice that each shape has a slit at the beginning of the curve. Begin sewing from the center of the Dresden Plate up towards the curve and stop sewing when you reach the slit. Repeat until all Small Dresden Plates are completed.
- Place each completed Dresden Plate with right sides facing the dimpled side of the non-woven fusible interfacing. Carefully sew 1/8" around the perimeter of each Dresden Plate. Clip the interfacing at the "dip" of each petal to allow interfacing to fold around the fabric when turned right side out. Turn right side out. Smooth rounded curves of the Dresden Plate petals then finger press interfacing to the back side of each Dresden Plate. DO NOT USE AN IRON YET.
- Using a design wall or the floor, arrange Large Dresden Plates as flowers. Refer to photo for placement. Arrange 1 1/2" Strips as flower stems. Fold stems in half matching edges. Stitch in place all the way down the stem. Fold stem over stitching then stitch down in place along edge. Stitch down along opposite side. Repeat with other stems.
- Using an iron, heat press Dresden Plate flowers in place beginning with the large and then placing the small Dresden Plate on top. The 1 1/4" Circle then gets placed in the center of the small Dresden Plate to cover the hole.
- Arrange Leaves in place and when satisfied, heat fuse in place using an iron.
- Measure across center of quilt top to bottom. Cut green inner border to that measurement. Stitch border to each side of quilt top.
- Measure across quilt top from side to side. Cut inner border to that measurement. Stitch border to top and bottom edge.
- Repeat steps 7 and 8 with outside border.
Finishing:
- Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Quilt by hand or machine as desired.
- Sew binding strips together to form one long strip. Fold wrong sides together lengthwise and press.
- With a 1/4" seam, sew the raw edges of the binding to the edges of the right side of the quilt. Turn the folded edge of the binding to the back side of the quilt and stitch in place by hand, mitering the corners.
