This is Jasleen posting today. We are sharing fashion-themed projects this week at Sizzix Lifestyle blog and I decided to share how I up-cycled a plain handbag with the help of Sizzix dies.

I recently received my new dies from Chapter 4 and they are all just wonderful. I decided to use the new Sizzix Bigz die - Calliope and another die from one of the earlier releases Sizzix Bigz- Sassy Serif Alphabet ‘J’.

Products used:-

Sizzix Big Shot Express Machine Only(White and gray)(660850)

Sizzix Bigz die - Calliope by Prima Marketing Inc. (661243)

Sizzix Bigz- Sassy Serif Alphabet ‘J’.(654725)

Craft felt sheets- White, pink; White pearls, fabric glue, needle and thread, tacky tape, etc.

Method :-

I always love working with Bigz dies because they can cut a variety of materials, including felt fabric.

I had this plain yellow coloured bag at home which belongs to my daughter and I thought it would be a nice idea to give a personal touch to it by embellishing it with the help of dies.

‘J’ is the initial of my little one’s name and so the ‘J’ was added by die cutting using a white craft felt.

The flower was made by layering four die cuts from the Calliope die set, two in white and the other two in pink. The innermost layer of the flower was made using the smaller floral die cut from the set. In order to give it a little dimension, I simply gave a small cut between the two petals, and aligned one petal over the adjacent one as shown in the picture. The four layers were then stitched together at the center.

Added the green leaves (also from the Calliope die set) and the blue bead in the center of the flower to complete it.

The flower and the alphabet were then adhered over the bag using a strong tacky tape. You can also prefer stitching it or gluing it down.

Finally, finished it off by sticking down some white pearls over the alphabet ‘J’

That was quite simple, isn’t it? You can also give it a try for embellishing a bag, or a tee, a basket, just about anything ! And do share whatever you make using Sizzix dies. I would love to see. :)

Hope you liked my simple yet effective upcycling idea.

See you all next week.
