It's no secret that I'm very fond of the range of journal/notebook dies designed by Eileen Hull. and I know that many of you feel the same. I couldn't wait to play with the new Tiny Book die which happily coincided with my current obsession with Tim Holtz' Doodle Art #2 die, let's see what happened when they came together...
After Die-cutting the Doodle Art #2 Background from 300gsm card (colour doesn't matter!) I attached it to a rectangle of the Mixed Media Board before die cutting the mini book cover which also creases the spine, Clever little die! Next, I applied white gesso getting in all the gaps.
After applying a blob of Desert Sand Americana Acrylic to the craft mat I spritzed it with water and mixed with a palette knife before applying to the book with the blending tool. This is much easier/quicker than using a brush. Next I applied some Mustard Seed Acrylic using the same method.
After die-cutting the corner detail and buckle I applied the same acrylic colours and mounted the corners onto the book cover.
To enhance and highlight the die-cut detail I mixed some Antiquing medium with Espresso acrylic and blended the two together with a palette knife. The medium keeps the acrylic from drying out too quickly allowing me to use my blending tool to get it in all of the gaps and wipe away the excess before it dries, leaving the darker colour in the gaps adding much needed contrast.
I wrapped some thin cream coloured twine around the spine of the book four times and tied it off in a knot. I then used a guillotine to cut a number of pages from different shades of neutral card before folding and thread into the book using the twine .
I cut a strip of the grey Texture Roll to use as a means of securing the book cover with the buckle. Before threading through said buckle I scrunched and distressed the strip. Texture roll is much more durable than cardstock so it will take quite a bit of abuse.
I love the finished Piece, such a cool effect and so easy to achieve... But wait! what's that lurking in the background...
You know me, I couldn't just stop at one make! Here is a card I made at the same time. The background is created using the same techniques but using two different shades of blue/green acrylic. Behind the sentiment sits a die-cut scribble from Tim's Media Marks set... plenty of cool makes to come from this set.
Thanks for stopping by, see you all again soon...
Thank you for your inspiration.
Only complaint is, you don't post often enough! :)
