My name is Kath and I'm delighted to be back on the Sizzix blog to share another project with you using dies from Tim Holtz Chapter 4 Christmas release. I created a Nordic Christmas Home Décor piece using Layered Pine and Patchwork Bird Bigz dies which will cut through thicker materials and are ideal for creating dimensional pieces. To create the base, I upcycled the waste from packs of Tim Holtz Etcetera Trims. I confess I am a hoarder but I knew I would find a use for them one day.
You will need:
Sizzix Big Shot Machine (660200)
Sizzix BigZ Die - Layered Pine (664217)
Sizzix BigZ Die - Patchwork Bird (664231)
Sizzix Thinlits Die - Pine Branch (664228)
Sizzix Thinlits Die - Alphanumeric Classic Upper (664223)
Sizzix Thinlits Die - Alphanumeric Classic Lower (664224)
Sizzix Tim Holtz Adhesive Sheets (663051)
Tim Holtz Etcetera Trims Waste
Sizzix Little Sizzles Matboard (656492)
Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Card
Tim Holtz Distress Paint - Ground Espresso/Antique Linen
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Classic KraftStock
Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements Fabric
Ranger Distress Grit Paste
Ranger Distress Rock Candy Glitter
Ranger Distress Collage Medium Matte
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Bauble Findings
To Make
Step 1. Arrange the Etcetera Trims waste so that the solid corner sections will be on alternate corners to create stability.
Step 2. Fix together with Distress Collage Medium Matte and place a heavy object on top until the adhesive has dried.
Step 3. Trim Distress Watercolor card panels to fit the top and bottom and adhere with Distress Collage Medium Matte. Paint the base with Ground Espresso Distress Paint.
Step 4. Apply light coats of White Gesso, building up layers until you are happy with the coverage. Sand the edges lightly to create a weathered wood look.
Step 5. Add Sizzix Adhesive Sheet to scraps of Distress Watercolor card and die cut "MERRY" 5 times, peel off the backing and fix together.
Step 6. Repeat with Sizzix Matboard and die cut Layered Pine and Patchwork Bird 5 times. Paint the edges of the die-cuts with Antique Linen Distress Paint.
Step 7. Fix Eclectic Elements Fabric to white card using Distress Collage Medium and when dry, die-cut the Layered Pine Trees and Patchwork Bird sections from different colours of the fabric. Fix the fabric die-cuts in place with Distress Collage Medium Matte.
Step 8. Tint the edges of the die-cut trees, bird and letters with a wash of Ground Espresso Distress ink.
Step 9. Die-cut the pine branches from Distress Watercolor card and colour lightly using Ground Espresso Distress Ink and a mini round blending tool. Spread a generous layer of Grit Paste on the panel and push the branches into the paste, curling up the top edges to create dimension.
Step 10. Apply a generous blob of Distress Grit Paste to the panel and add the larger tree. Fix a pine cone behind the tree using a hot glue gun which will act as a support and add more Grit Paste to the base of the tree and pine cone.
Step 11. Die-cut the word MERRY from red Classic KraftStock and fix the letters on top of the dimensional letters. Repeat the process of fixing down the smaller tree, the Patchwork Bird and letters with Grit Paste. Add Grit Paste to fill in any gaps leaving the edges of the panel free. While the Grit Paste is wet, add pine cones and Idea-ology Bauble Findings. Add Grit Paste sparingly to the edges of the trees and bird and sprinkle the base of the panel and the die-cuts generously with Distress Clear Rock Candy Glitter.
Step 12. Adhere Sizzix Adhesive Sheets to scraps of white card and Brown Classic KraftStock and die cut "CHRISTMAS" using the Alphanumeric Classic Lower Thinlits. Fix to the front of the panel using Distress Collage Medium Matte and add a black pearl for the eye of the bird.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I created my Nordic Christmas Home Décor project and I'll be back soon with another project using Tim Holtz Chapter 4 dies.
