Pete here with Day three of our festive blog hop, Read on.........

As with the rest of my fellow bloggers I have been restricted to just the one die set namely Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 7PK - Box, Pillow & Poinsettias (660660) designed by the uber talented Jen Long. This is a restriction I am happy to work with because I adore this set!

Those of you who follow my blog may know that I featured this set the minute it was released because it is too fabulous not to.

My New Years resolution is to wean myself off Kraft card (maybe!) but for now I just can't resist as this is my favourite way to use this set which is really versatile as I'm sure you will see in the coming days.

I started by die cutting all the elements that I will need from 240 gsm kraft card. Next, I gave them all a dusting of gesso using a brayer. Not too much gesso remember, we can always add more and don't forget to spread it nice and thin.

I applied some more gesso through a Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz stencil (Speckles THS021) to add further detail before applying the music notation stamped detail with a dark grey ink pad (Black is a bit too heavy in this context)

Poinsettia 4

I rolled out some white chalky paint with my brayer before using it to stamp my postmark, this works better than you might imagine! Next, I used a Distress Ink pad (Walnut Stain) and applicator to add a little depth to the edges.

Poinsettia 5

I used the same ink pad around the edges of my Die-cut shapes to give a little extra contrast when they are assembled.

Poinsettia 1

I gently curled the petals of the poinsettia die-cuts before mounting them together as shown using glue and adhesive foam pads where appropriate.

Poinsettia 6

The box is wrapped using lace ribbon and natural twine, I gathered together some berry and pearl embellishments and twisted them together before adding an adhesive gem to the centre of the assembled poinsettia and attaching them to the box using my trusty glue gun.

Poinsettia 7

Here is the box finished in my wife's favourite style, now all I have to do is find some jewellery to go inside it!
