A month ago I was presenting some shows at Hochanda TV when I bumped into my friend Andy Skinner. Andy was presenting his show as I was setting up mine. At one point I passed a monitor and saw him demonstrate a technique to create a really cool chipped tin effect using hair clay. I didn't see the whole thing and meant to ask him about it later, sadly I forgot but I thought I would try to fill in the blanks and give it a go!
If you are interested in mixed media techniques and you haven't seen Andy's work then you are really missing out. If you are going to borrow ideas and techniques then it's always good to draw your inspiration from the best, thanks Andy!
Here's the video...
Here are some more Bubbalux hearts decorated using the Mixed Media #6 collection. This time I sprayed the die-cut hearts with silver paint and applied the same techniques to give the impression of chipped tin, this was closer to Andy's original idea.
Same again, this time using the Bigz Fir Tree die. It's never too early to sneak in a little Christmas make!
Hope you enjoyed the video, more on the way.
Thanks for stopping by, see you again soon.
I have a hack to share with you :)
I was working on some Royal & Lingnickel engraving art foil (scraper board) with some Sizzix embossing folders I won in your competition a while back.
Covered in dust from using a piece of sanding paper I thought: there's got to be a better way to distressor get bits of the black off this embossed scraper board. Ive tried this with the silver, gold and copper btw.
Lo and behold, electric light bulb moment - I thought: I will rub some cheap as chips nail varnish remover over it in a circular make up remover pad where I want to remove the black. WOW no rubbed off dust, you can be as heavy handed or as delicate as you wish. Fabulous for the metal look on the brand new Sizzix/Tim Holtz industrial embossing boards on Hochanda today. Let me know how you get on :) V x
