Hi everyone one! Here it´s Mercedes again from Las labores de Mercedes with my first finished project in 2016, a nice hand sewing cushion with a mix of linen using hexagon dies that I love very much!.
I started sewing the hexagon a long time ago thinking it would be a quilt. However I decided it would be a cushion because of the difficulty sewing by hand the linen fabric ,much heavy than cotton.
Here you can see the back of my "rustic" cushion with linen fabric.
Dies and machine used:
big shot plus machine white and grey
You know that hexagon are sewn in the paper piecing method. I saved a lot of time doing the cutting of the cardboard and fabric pieces using my Big Shot machine and two of the hexagon dies.
Oh, My !! I couldn´t believe how fast you can get a lot of cardboard and fabric hexagons ready to use.
I prefered using cereal cardboard so I can enjoy the pieces in the future and recycle them.
Just you need to cut the cardboard pieces smaller that the fabric and then start to prepare the individual pieces and after that sew one to each other.
I have done flowers with two kinds of linen ( cream and natural ) in the middle and alternating both of them.
You can cut out as many as you want and get a table runner, a little quilt or a cushion like me.
Here you can see the best method it works for me, sewing the corners on the wrong side of each hexagon and then sew one each other. Take a look to the pics. It can help if you press each hexagon before sewng together. After finishing all the process you don ´t need to remove the thread.
Finally I got a total of 75 hexagons.
Iron and remove all the card stock. Trim border to a rectangle. Sew a cotton white fabric on the wrong side.
Finish the sewing of the cushion with zipper.
Some more hexagons project are on their way , some smaller some bigger that I hope I can show you.
Have a nice weekend and I see you in two weeks as always.
Love
Mercedes

big shot plus machine white and grey
Mercedes
