Q. Hi! I've just used my Big Shot for the first time with a Tim Holtz Bigz die - tattered florals (or something like that!). I placed the die on the bottom plate, put my paper on top of the die then put the other plate on top and ran it through the machine. The top plate has been slightly cut into by the die! Is this normal or should there be another layer of some sort to protect the plate? Thanks. From Julie
A. Hi Julie. This is perfectly normal so don’t worry. It’ would help to turn your plates over from time to time to help them stay even and last even longer. Happy crafting!
Q. Hi. Please could you tell me what thickness of metal I could safely cut or emboss with my big shot machine and also what thickness of leather would it work with? Thanks Sharon
A. Hi Sharon. Thickness is not really the issue when it comes to die cutting metal or leather but how soft or pliable or soft the material is. I always keep old take-away cartons which is perfect for die cutting and embossing. As always, if it cuts with scissors it will be OK to use Bigz or Originals dies. Thanks
Q. I would like to make tin jewellery - especially earrings. Any idea where to buy craft tin. Thanks, Pilula
A. Hi Pilula. There are several manufacturers making sheets of craft metal specifically for die cutting and embossing many of which can be found online with a quick search. Always check with the retailer/manufacturer to ensure that it is right for your needs. Hope that helps!
